Developed in 2021, the For HMDCs, by HMDCs webinar series is an opportunity for certificants to share their experiences and hospice knowledge to aid in the professional development of their certified colleagues.
Each session is focused on a topic relevant for today's hospice physician/medical director and is primarly taught by HMDCB-certified physicians. Sessions that provide CME include an additional fee.
Session 1: February 20, 2024 at 11 am CT
Hospice Coding & Billing
Learn about the basics of professional billing, specifically time vs complexity, and take a deep dive into the current AMA complexity table with examples specific to hospice care. Gain knowledge about when to use and not use certain billing codes when caring for patients on the Medicare Hospice Benefit (MHB). For providers who work at programs that provide hospice and palliative care, discover several new codes for 2024 that can be used when caring for seriously ill patients not yet enrolled in the MHB.

Buprenorphine Applications to Hospice Practice: What's the Scoop on Bup?
The use of buprenorphine in hospice care as become more prevalent in recent years and it is important for the hospice physician/medical director to understand when and how to use it. During this session, learners can expect to gain a better understand of why buprenorphine is being used and not being usedin the hospice setting. Learners will also discover the top reasons for use, different prescribing strategies, common misconceptions surrounding buprenorphine use, and how best to use it when caring for patients on end-of-life care.

Physician Onboarding: Getting Physicians Ready for the Job
Successfully onboarding hospice physicians can prepare them to best serve patients and support the organization. In this session, discover the key components of onboarding a physician, how the adult learning process impacts training, strategies for onboarding physicians from various career backgrounds, and gain resources to help address the learning "drift."
