1. Learn About the Initial Exam

HMDCB's Candidate Handbook provides detailed information on the entire certification process, from the application process to Continuing Certification. We recommend that all candidates review the Handbook to become familiar with the process and the three eligibility pathways for initial certification - practice, certification, or training. You can access the Candidate Handbook on our resource page.

2. Apply Online

To apply, complete the online application via our application portal. If you do not have an account, please create a free account by clicking the Register Now button. Once you create an account, you will have access to the online application. Please prepare to provide your licensure and hospice experience. The application can be completed in one sitting or multiple, make sure to save the application so you can return to it later.  

3. Schedule Your Exam

After you complete the application and it is moved to Submitted status, you will receive an email from our testing partner, PSI, with instructions on how to schedule your exam. The email will be sent from PSI Candidate Services (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) within 5-7 business days of HMDCB receiving your completed application and payment. Use these instructions to schedule your exam. 

4. Prepare for Exam Day

Although HMDCB does not endorse or sell any preparation materials, we do provide a list of recommended resources for exam preparation, including an expanded content blueprint, which details the five content domains on the examination. The expanded blueprint will be included in the confirmation email sent to you after you complete the application.
